I have had a busy and exciting month and have had no time to write up my tracks of the month, so apologies for the delay.
Soul and madness, reggae and bass: this pretty much sums up my favourite tracks this month.
One of the most profound statements on music I’ve ever heard or read was made by the saxophone player Charlie Parker, he said:
A funny thing happened to me this week. I paid five dollars to enter a raffle a homeless man had set up outside the Detroit Electronic Music festival. Unusually for me, I won: it was a tatty copy of John Coltrane’s “Love Supreme”. I couldn’t think of a more perfect prize.
I’m off to perform, record and report at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (Movement) later this month. I can’t wait, everyone from Moodymann to Underground Resistance is performing.
